About Brierwood.Info

What Brierwood.info is, and everything it provides for Brierwood Estates.

The purpose of Brierwood.info

When the Brierwood Golf Course closed in 2017, the community lost the primary place where its owners met, planned, helped, informed and communicated with each other. The Brierwood Association filled part of that void but disbanded in 2024.

Brierwood.info is a community website for Brierwood Estates owners and residents in Shallotte, North Carolina. It brings the neighborhood’s calendar, conversations, history, recorded documents, maps and local resources together in one user-friendly place, and it keeps what the community knows from being lost.

Open to everyone

Calendar: Events within and around Brierwood Estates that may interest owners, shown by month or as a list. Anyone can suggest an event from the calendar, and a website administrator reviews it before it is added.

Articles: In-depth articles on Brierwood Estates: the story of the community and its golf course, guides to the 18 holes, plain-language guides to the records and rules that affect living here, and a ten-part Timeline series, Brierwood Estates: Timeline of a Community, that follows the neighborhood from the 1967 land purchase to today and links to the supporting plats and records.

History: A short history of Brierwood Estates, from Dr. Ben Ward’s purchase of the land in 1967 through today.

Area resources: Area Information, Area News & Music (newspapers, TV and radio), Government & Services (Town, county, state and utilities) and the Surrounding Area Beaches, for easy access to what residents look for most.

Contact: A form to reach the website administrators with questions, corrections or ideas.

Private areas for registered members

Some areas are private and can only be opened by registered, approved members. Anyone else who clicks one sees a notice explaining this, with links to register or to ask the administrator for temporary access.

Forum: A members’ discussion area organized into sections and sub-sections, such as Community Events, Community Services (including resident-owned businesses), Safety, Home & Yard, the golf course and land, the local area and a marketplace. Members use their first and last name, can start topics, post and reply, and can edit or delete their own posts. The Forum Rules explain how it works.

Documents: The recorded documents behind the community, including the 1969 Declaration of Restrictions with a paragraph-by-paragraph summary, the plats, the Pool Association articles and other filings, with the downloaded Brunswick County and Town of Shallotte records. The Documents Index describes the recordings under the Brierwood names and links to the files.

Maps: Plat-style and aerial maps of the community with its plat sections and approximate years, the four sheets of the 1973 plat, and the interactive golf course map showing all 18 holes over satellite imagery.
